Currency:
In 1991 came the actual currency of the Republic of Peru, which replaced the traditional Intis; the Nuevo Sol (S /.), which is equivalent to 100 cents. There are notes of 200, 100, 50, 20 and 10 Nuevos Soles and coins of 1, 2 and 5 Nuevos Soles and 0.50, 0.20 and 0.10.
Foreign Exchange:
In Peru there is no restriction on the foreign currency exchange. U.S. dollars are accepted without a problem at hotels, shops and supermarkets in Lima and in major cities. However, other foreign currencies like the Euro are more complicated to change. It is generally recommended to go to banks or exchange houses in big cities, especially Lima, because they provide more security and guarantee that street money changers, who are best to be avoided.
International Credit Cards:
In Peru accept Visa, Master Card, Diners Club, although not all establishments to enable them to pay.
ATMs:
There are many that accept international cards.
Tips:
Who travel to Peru should know that the services and sales are taxed at the General Sales Tax (IGV), equivalent to 19% of consumption or purchase. Thus, in restaurants or hotels 10% will be added. The law requires dealers to show the customer the final price, including taxes.
Due to these taxes, tips are not very common in Peru. However, if you want to give some tips, 10 or 15% (roughly one U.S. dollar or euro) will be fine, as long as you are satisfied with the service provided in restaurants, bars, hotels or buttons
Coins in Circulation
Nowadays, there are 8 coins, in the front they show a different image each one, and on the back they have the one of the symbols of Peru at the center, in the exergue legend Central Reserve Bank of Peru and the year of issue.
